Game Day, August 12, 2007

Sunday, August 12th, 2007

Todays game was held at the LU Field. Present were Itsahak, Stealth, SGT T, Berk, and visitors Ryan and Andy. Andy drove in from Richmond so huge props to him! Sealed Card Medic Systems was the order of the day, with each player getting 2 cards. Berk was fielding his new TM AK for the first time as was Hak with the JG G36c. SGT T was finally getting to get work with his (finally!) working CA M15 Carbine.
We split teams into Hak, SGT, and Stealth vs. Berk, Ryan and Andy. Hak and the guys started off down by the Pipeline cutoff while Berk and crew started at the staging area. SGT T lead the squad down the trail and around to the back side of the Pipeline Ridge. He heard the other squad coming from the opposite side and called for the crew to hunker down. Shortly after finding cover, Berk and the boys came into sight. SGT T opened the dance by shooting at, and hitting Berk. Hak opened up on Andy and was able to hit him as well. Stealth was attempting to slide up on Ryan’s position, but Hak was able to get the shot first. With Berk’s squad respawning , Hak and SGT T met Stealth down on the path and proceeded to try and move out undetected. Stealth noticed that the OpFor was watching their movement. The guys decided to try and pull the newly responded squad into an ambush. SGT T and Stealth set up on opposite sides of the trail while Hak moved up in to the woods. Shortly Hak noticed Berk moving off to his left and radioed that in. Stealth and SGT T were having problems hearing Hak’s transmissions. OOPS! Did someone forget to charge their radio battery’s?! Hak noticed Ryan and Andy moving in from Berk’s flank, and not up the trail as had been expected. Knowing he was in trouble, with no way to really alert his squad mates, Hak took the only option he had left. He attacked the three invaders! Getting in a very lucky shot, Hak was able to hit Berk, only to be taken out by Andy. Shortly thereafter, Andy was taken out by Rob and Ryan “tactically relocated” to await for his squad to respawn. With Hak down and waiting to respawn, SGT T moved toward the road while Stealth moved across the wood line. Hak rejoined SGT T after his spawn time, informing him of his radio issues. They decided to move back to the staging area, via the road to change the spent radio battery’s. T informed Stealth of the direction and off they went. Stealth radioed that he could here the OpFor group moving off a ways. SGT T decided to cut from Hak and move into the gully below the staging area. Hak, the buffoon, ran to change battery’s. Before Hak could finish, Berk and crew showed incredible poise and ability by sneaking in the back door and taking out Stealth before he knew they were there. Hak was covering the ridge line from behind some junk while SGT was low in the gully. Hak radioed, with good battery’s this time, that the enemy was moving laterally across the ridge top towards the road. Stealth respawned shortly thereafter and took up position to cover the road. They waited. Nothing happened. Berk and his elusive squad had proven slippery once again, doubling back up the road way. Hak and Stealth began to move up the road while SGT T moved through the woods. After a tense stretch, SGT T opened up and began receiving return fire. Hak and Stealth saw the fire coming from Berk, who had taken up a good position in the wood line. They both started firing at him when Stealth took a hit from somewhere up the road! Hak saw Andy laying in some tall grass and knew his number was up. He went down firing at Andy lit him up from a great concealed position. Hak headed back to the staging area to deal with some kit issues while Stealth respawned down the road. By the time Hak fixed his kit issue and rejoined the game it was over, with SGT T and Stealth having to finish the opposing squad by themselves.

Next Berk and the boys took the ICBP’s (okay their PVC tubes with endcaps, deal with it!), to the Pipeline Ridge. They chose to defend, leaving Stealth’s to attack. SGT T lead the group down to the bulldozed trails leading up to the rear of the Pipeline Ridge. SGT T motioned that he had Objective #1 in sight, but no one from Berk’s group was there. Hak moved off to the left flank while Stealth moved up to the right. SGT made his way slowly down the trail. He almost fell victim to Berk’s AK fire, but Berk, not being used to the new replica missed. T returned fire and was able to hit Berk. Hak continued to move up the left flank, seeing and hearing nothing. SGT T engaged another target, finding Ryan hiding close by. T moved up and secured Objective #1, passing it on to Hak. Hak and T moved down the left flank after T eyed Objective #2 down the Pipeline. After again engaging the renewed Berk, SGT T moved forward toward Objective #2 with Hak following. The pair started taking sniper fire and quickly found cover. Stealth began to move down to the intercept Berk and his group, firing on them as he came. Soon, all three of the defenders were down. Hak moved in and secured Objective #2, while SGT T returned to pick up #1 where Hak had left it. They moved quickly, but separately, to the staging area, ending the scenario.

Next a quick pistol game was held, pitting Ryan, Berk, Hak and SGT T against each other in a free for all. At the go signal, Hak moved out to engage Berk. He found Berk engaged in a shootout with SGT T. Hak took a shot and missed, however he did succeed in alerting Berk to his presence. After a brief, fierce shootout, Hak was able to come out on top. He briefly engaged SGT T, with SGT T running out of ammo. Hak turned to engage Ryan, finding that Ryan’s borrowed WE Hi Cappa was out of gas! Hak heard T reloading and slipped in a fresh mag of his own. Hak and T engaged around a large tree with Hak finally winning through. Hak’s celebration was short lived however as Berk had reloaded Ryan’s borrowed WE and proceeded to let loose the dogs of war on Hak! Et Tu Berk?! Well played!

All in all it was a good day! Alot of fun and a big thanks to our two visitors! Andy and Ryan have proven to be good players, competitors and friends! B.R.A.S.S. hopes to see more of them in the near future!

BRASS Live Shoot, Aug 4, 2007

Sunday, August 5th, 2007

Today was the B.R.A.S.S. Live Shoot. This event was held at the LUPD firing range (a big shoutout to 1st SGT Hinkley for giving us the range for the day.) Present were Itsahak, SA, Bishop, Tenkawa, and Berkelsk.

As SA has the most competitive experience and probably the most real steel firearms experience on the team, he ran the show. SA started with a safety briefing of how the range would run, weapons safety and rules, and a short lecture on the basics of semi auto pistols nomenclature and their functions.

Next we set up on the 7 yard line and did some shooting! Calibers in attendance were .38, .40, .45 ACP and a new .45 GAP, as well as Mossberg and Remington 12 gauge shotguns. After several strings of fire at the 7 the line moved back to the 15 yard line. Several strings of fire were completed there and the group moved back to the 25 yard line.

After those sessions, SA set up a short Practical Pistol Course. The shooter had to begin standing behind a barrier with his hands on the barrier, pistol holstered and ready. On the “Go!” signal, the shooter had to draw the firearm, and engage a Hostage Taker/Hostage target from the right side of the barrier. Next the shooter had to engage a tango on the left side of the barrier. The shooter than moved right, down the line to two propped targets. Both of these targets had to be knocked down. The shooter had to complete a tactical reload during the string of fire as well. After knocking down the propped targets the shooter moved to the end of the line and another barrier. Leaning around the right side of the barrier, the shooter engaged the last target.

All B.R.A.S.S. members in attendance ran through the course at least once. It was a great course and left us begging for more. This is one of the more fun (and exiting) benefits of being a B.R.A.S.S. team member! We look forward to more in the future!
